4:00 Doncaster - STEINKRAUS (4/1) - 0.75pts EW - Our free bet today comes in a competitive Class 4 Handicap Hurdle and we are siding with the Donald McCain runner. My personal view is that this horse remains in good form, and remains progressive, and that makes him a very dangerous prospect in a race such as this. I think the bookies have underestimated the value of his performance last time out when he finished 3rd behind GAZETTE BOURGEOISE and ART OF DIPLOMACY. Whilst he was beaten 38 lengths that day, he was the only horse to come out of the pack and stick with the front 2 coming into the home straight. There is no doubt that both runners are a cut above him but GAZETTE heads the market for the Pertemps qualifier at Huntingdon today and ART OF DIPLOMACY went and bolted up on his next start at Catterick, beating BILL BAXTER in the process, who is one of Warren's better novice hurdlers. It just looks to me like STEINKRAUS faced an impossible task in that last race but still performed with merit and went down on his sword. With that being the case, there certainly aren't any horses in today's race that have any where near as much scope as the two that beat him LTO and having dropped a 1lb for that run and having reinstated a 7lb claimer to ride, I think this horse has everything in his favour this afternoon.
